Trying to Make a Deposit into Your US Online Poker Account?

Today we have some horrible news for all of you that live in the United States. Just recently MasterCard figured out how the poker rooms were accepting deposits from players in the USA using their credit card. Since players in the USA aren’t allowed to make deposits into online poker rooms due to the UIGEA MasterCard has made improvements to their system.

Many poker rooms that have been accepting MasterCard for players residing in the USA have just recently announced they won’t be accepting it anymore. The poker rooms will be obviously working hard together to find a solution to this problem, but for now if you live in the United States you will need to find another deposit option other then MasterCard.

It should be noted for new online poker players that this has happened once in the past. MasterCard figured out a couple years ago the method poker rooms were using to accept transactions for gambling. The first time that this happened it took the poker rooms just two months to find a solution that has worked up until now. The good news is that online poker rooms are still accepting Visa, since Visa hasn’t been able to crack the code that the poker rooms are using.

I’m not to sure how exactly the poker rooms were bypassing the MasterCard security, but basically every time someone in the USA makes a transaction to an online gaming site it’s supposed to come up as a “gambling” transaction. If it comes up as a “gambling” transaction then it’s denied immediately since players in the US aren’t supposed to play on any online gaming sites for real money. The online poker rooms that were accepting MasterCard found a way to accept the transactions without them coming up as a “gambling transaction”

It should be interesting to see how Visa responds to this depositing mess as well as the poker rooms. I’d imagine that Visa will either stop accepting deposits shortly or the poker rooms will figure out a new method for cracking the system and will accept both credit cards again shortly.
