Kevin Macphee Takes Down the 2010 EPT Berlin Main Event

March 8, 2010

The past couple of days in Berlin have been a little more exciting then anyone had expected. If you haven’t heard the news already on day four at the Main Event the hotel where the event was being held was actually robbed. There was security present when the robbery took place and it’s been reported that they helped keep the majority of the money safe although the robbers did make off with some money.

Once the robbery was over the tournament actually continued being played on day four until they were down to only the final eight players left. The final eight players played the final table and on day five and Kevin Macphee walked away the winner. Kevin was leading the tournament throughout some of the previous days of action and has had a really consistent tournament. The biggest part of winning these stretched out tournaments is how consistent you can play from day to day. You can have one good day and then the next day make a couple mistakes that cost you your entire tournament.

Kevin Macphee needed to go up against Ilari Tahkokallio in the heads-up battle. Both of these players are familiar with each other as they’ve played against each other in the past including a heads-up battle just like this. Once everyone knew that these two would be going up against each other, we all figured that it would be a long lasting match. The two of them ended up playing back and forth for over three hours until finally Kevin won.

This will definitely be a tournament that won’t be forgotten for years to come due to the robbery that took place, but at least nobody ended up getting hurt. A few players reported minor injuries due to the massive chaos that took place in the poker room when the robbery happened, but overall nobody ended up with any serious injuries and most of the money wasn’t stolen either.
