The WSOP Tournament of Champions Returns This Year with New Format
March 17, 2010
Some of you that have been playing poker for a few years now may remember the Tournament of Champions that was held for several years at the World Series of Poker. The event was held from 2004-2006, but it had been taken off the roster until this year. Harrah’s just announced that they’ll be bringing the tournament back in 2010 with a completely new format. The new format is awesome and I think it’s going to receive a lot of great buzz from the poker world.
The new format will see 27 players take to the felt in the battle to see who wins the Tournament of Champions. This year the format will be set-up like an all-star game where the players need to be voted into the tournament. There are a few players that earn automatic seats in the event though. The three previous winners of the TOC receive automatic bids in the tournaments and they include Annie Duke, Mike Sexton and Mike Matusow. Joe Cada and Barry Shulman also receive entry into the tournament. Cada is the reigning WSOP Main Event winner and Shulman is the reigning WSOPE Main Event winner.
All of the other seats in the tournament will need to be voted in by the poker world. The only players that can receive votes are players that have won a WSOP bracelet. The voting will take place on the official WSOP.com website so make sure that you cast your votes for the players you want to see at the 2010 Tournament of Champions. It should be interesting to see what type of marketing the players do to try and ensure they earn a spot in the event. The polls will opened up today so if you have time you can go and vote now. The voting will end on June 15th so you have plenty of time to vote, just don’t forget.
