Final Table Set At The 2010 Irish Poker Open
April 5, 2010
The Paddy Power Poker 2010 Irish Poker Open has been running over this Easter Weekend and it has been nothing short of amazing thus far and we haven’t even had the final table yet. Even with it being Easter this weekend there were still plenty of poker players looking to add to their career totals as over 700 poker players made it out to the event. The great thing about the 700+ playing field is that it’s a new record for the Irish Poker Open, which continues to get better every year.
There really weren’t that many big name poker players in the house this weekend since most of them I’m sure are with their families for Easter. The good thing about that news for the rest of the playing field is that they won’t need to battle through the world’s best players in the hunt for the Irish Poker Open title. Today was the third day of action and it was definitely longer then most of the players would have liked it I’m sure.
The remaining players in the tournament today needed to knock the field down to a mere 8 players for the final table. To do this it took the remaining players over 12 hours of poker and I’m sure most of the players in this field haven’t experienced such a long day of poker in their career. Santeri Valikoski will be the chip leader heading into the final table, but there isn’t much of a gap between the first place player and the eighth-place player who is Edmund Sweeney.
The final hand of the day was a terrible one for the ninth-place finisher Yann Dion. Dion went all-in with his pocket queens, but was quickly called by Paul Carr who was sitting with pocket aces. The board didn’t bring any help for Yann and he was sent home in eighth place. Someone had to go home, but it’s a shame that Yann needed to go home on a hand like this. We’ll be back here tomorrow to let you know how the final table played out.
