Michael Mizrachi Leads the $50K 2010 WSOP Players Championship after Day 3

May 31, 2010

With the 2010 World Series of Poker now underway you can expect PokerSense to provide you with as much news as we possibly can over the next month or so. One of the most anticipated events leading up to this year’s WSOP was the Players Championship event that had a hefty buy-in of $50K. This year there were a couple changes to the set-up of the tournament, but basically instead of playing HORSE Poker they’ll be playing Eight-Game Poker. The final table will also see a change and they’ll only be playing NL Texas Holdem.

There were a 116 poker players that were able to pony up the hefty $50K price tag for this tournament, but that means the winner is going to be walking home a lot richer from Vegas. The first day was rather uneventful due to the low blinds and we only seen a handful of eliminations. There were some big names leaving the field early though, including Brian Townsend, Tom Dwan and Greg Mueller.

The second day of the event proved to be a much tougher challenge for the players as we seen almost half of the remaining field eliminated. Since this event is mainly full of professional poker players you can only imagine the names that made their exit on this day. Players like Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius and Mike Matusow were all knocked out of the event on day two. Yesterday was the third day of action and the remaining field of 54 was knocked down to a mere 21 players.

Yesterday seen many of the world’s best poker players eliminated from contentions including Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein and Chris Ferguson. There are still many excellent players left in the field and I can’t wait to see who’ll take down the bracelet. Michael Mizrachi leads the way right now, but not far behind is David Oppenheim, Abe Mosseri and John Juanda.
