Voting for the 2010 Poker Hall of Fame

It’s almost that time of year again where everyone will have the opportunity to vote for his or her favourite poker player to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. This year the format for being accepted into the Hall of Fame has changed a little bit from the year’s past. This year there will be two players that will earn a spot for life in the Poker HOF and it’ll be based on the top vote getters throughout the long process.

Initially the polls will be open to anyone that is a fan of poker and wants to vote. From July 1st – August 31st anyone that would like to vote for a poker player to enter the HOF will simply need to go to the World Series of Poker website. After the polls have closed to the public the top ten vote getters will have the chance to potentially enter the HOF. The voting committee always goes through the list of 10 players and they can always add/subtract players, as they deem necessary.

After the list has been approved it will be sent out to the members of the Poker Hall of Fame along with members of the media that spend all year following poker. These select individuals will need to rank the players they think should be entered into the HOF and then from there the top two vote getters will earn an entry into the HOF this year. The two players that are inducted into the HOF will need to maintain a majority vote throughout the entire process though in order to receive entry.

Last year the only player that was inducted using the old format was Mike Sexton and many other excellent players were left waiting for another year. Some of the notable players that should make the top 10 easily this year include Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen and Barry Greenstein. I’m actually surprised that will everything Greenstein has done for the game of poker that he has yet to crack the seal and be inducted.
