2010 World Series of Poker Europe Is Underway in London

With the World Series of Poker November Nine waiting to hit the felt in Las Vegas, many Europeans and poker players from other countries will be playing in the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe in London. This year most people expect a large turnout for the events at the WSOPE and it looks like they may be correct. The first event reached the maximum player limit and I’m sure the Main Event is going to be sold out as well.

The 1st WSOPE Event in 2010 was the £2650 NL Holdem 6 Handed Event, which was won by Phil Laak. Most people know Phil Laak as the Unabomber due to the massive media attention he received years ago. Phil hasn’t done that well in recent years, but he can now say that he has earned his first WSOP Gold Bracelet. Laak walked away with £170,000 for his first place finish and should have tons of fun in London with his newfound money.

There are several events running right now, but the 2010 WSOPE Main Event doesn’t begin until September 23rd. We’ll be sure to cover the action from the Main Event once it begins, as there should be plenty of great poker players in the casino. Last year a familiar face by the name of Barry Shulman (Owner of CarePlayer Magazine) won the Main Event with Daniel Negreanu finishing in second place.

I’m sure we’ll see these two in Europe again and I expect Laak to take part in the Main Event as well.
