Jonathan Duhamel & John Racener Battle Heads-Up for WSOP Main Event Bracelet

November 7, 2010

The wait for the November Nine was finally over, as they hit the felt in Las Vegas to play down to the final two players last night. By the end of the night the only two players left with chips in front of them were Jonathan Duhamel and John Racener. Both players will be back on the felt at 8PM on Monday to play out the remainder of the tournament. Duhamel has a huge chip lead heading into the heads-up battle, but Racener has been playing great poker.

Racener is going to need to showcase his short stack game in the heads-up battle if he wants a chance of winning. We all know John can play with the short stack, but it isn’t going to be easy with the levels so high. When the two players sit down on Monday night the blinds will begin at 600,000/1,200,000, which means Racener only has about 25 big blinds. Duhamel will start the match with 188,950,000 chips while Racener will be on the short stack with only 30,750,000. Winning isn’t out of the question for Racener, but he’s going to need a quick double up and then another double up shortly thereafter to stand a fighting chance.

If you placed a wager on Duhamel to win the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event then you’re looking extremely good. Duhamel was the chip leader coming into the final table and he’s managed to hang onto the lead. If Duhamel can win the tournament it’d be the first time that a Canadian poker player has won the WSOP Main Event. Duhamel only paid about +180 at the betting window and was the favourite coming into the event, which means many square bettors probably cashed.

We’ll take a look at the prize payouts and how everyone ended up finishing on the final table this Tuesday once the heads-up battle between these two players is over.
