David Gorr wins Aussie Millions Main Event and $2.5 Million

While the 721-player Aussie Millions Main Event field was filled with recognizable pros, a little known 68-year-old grandfather by the name of David Gorr came away with the title and AUD $2 million.

But it wasn’t easy for Gorr since he had to survive a final table that included noted players like Patrik Antonius and Chris “moorman1” Moorman. However, Gorr was able to navigate his way through the tough final table crowd and on towards a heads-up match with James Keys. When the two started playing heads-up, Gorr had a big 6-to-1 chips advantage.

Unfortunately for Gorr, his big lead didn’t amount to much as Keys battled with the Melbourne grandfather for over four hours. Eventually, Gorr regained the chip lead and forced Keys all-in on a board of 7-6-3-K rainbow; Keys was in the lead with a 7-3 two-pair, but Gorr (K-4) rivered a 4 to make a better two-pair.

3. Jeff Rossiter – $700,000
4. Michael Ryan – $450,000
5. Randy Dorfman – $325,000
6. Samad Razavi – $225,000
7. Chris “moorman1” Moorman – $175,000
8. Patrik Antonius – $130,000

Gorr is one of the most interesting Aussie Millions winners in the event’s history since he only had a little over $160k in career winnings prior to this huge victory. In addition to this, Gorr has a normal job as a computer technician at an insurance company.

So did Gorr ditch his job after scooping the $2 million Main Event prize and gaining international poker fame? Not quite since Gorr was at work the following Monday. Just imagine what he’ll be able to tell his fellow co-workers when they ask, “So what did you do this weekend?”
