Isildur1 and Dan Cates to play in PokerStars SuperStar Showdown

Fresh off revealing his true identity to be Viktor Blom, “Isildur1” is set for another PokerStars SuperStar Showdown. This time Blom will be facing Dan “jungleman12” Cates, who earned more profits than any other online poker player in 2010 with $5.5 million.

The matchup between Cates and Blom is set to happen this Sunday (January 30th) at 17:30 ET. According to the PokerStars press release, the duo will multi-table four tables of $50/$100 No-Limit Hold’em, and the contest will last for 2,500 hands. Getting back to the SuperStar Showdown, this will be Cates’ first time playing in the event. Blom, on the other hand, will be playing in his third PokerStars SuperStar Showdown. In the first matchup, Blom was defeated by Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton by $47,701 in NL Hold’em games. However, Blom came back by defeating rival Tony G in a series of NL Hold’em and Omaha games as he walked away with $44,000.

It was shortly after the Tony G matchup that Blom revealed he was the mysterious “Isildur1.” Speculation had been running for over a year and a half about who exactly Isildur1 was after the Swedish phenomenon outplayed some of the world’s best poker players in 2009. Blom was one of the people who was frequently said to be Isildur1, but Blom quickly dismissed these rumors by saying, “I am not the man you’re looking for.”

Now we know this is a lie as he arguably heads into his toughest showdown yet with Cates. Cates has already made $750,000 in profits this year, and he’ll be looking to add to that total in the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown.
