Jason Duhamel wins EPT Deauville High Roller Event

Those who think that Jason Duhamel is a one-hit wonder were proven wrong this week as the 2010 WSOP Main Event champion won the €10,000 EPT Deauville High Roller Event. Duhamel was able to beat a 58-player field, and earn the €203,232 ($276,608) top prize.

Duhamel generated plenty of buzz early on in the High Roller tournament as he steadily increased his chip stack and moved into third place at the end of Day 1. With just 16 players left on Day 2, Duhamel easily made the final table, and worked his way into a heads-up match with Alain Confino.

Confino’s chip stack kept dwindling throughout heads-up play until he was forced to go all-in with A-J; unfortunately for Confino, his cards were dominated by Duhamel’s A-K combo, and the board failed to help him.

Besides the €203,232 prize, perhaps the best thing about Duhamel’s victory is that he proved the WSOP Main Event victory wasn’t a fluke. After winning the $8,944,138 payout in the Main Event, Duhamel had yet to land any significant cashes before winning the High Roller Event.

Following the win, Duhamel said, “I have to prove something to myself. The best way to prove it is by just playing a lot, practicing a lot, and then be ready if I play a final table.” He also added, “I’m so happy right now, I love poker. €200,000 is definitely nice, but the feeling to win a big one again is even better.”

Adding the EPT Deauville High Roller crown does a lot for Duhamel’s legacy since he moves into 15th place on the all-time live tournament winnings list with $9,322,480; he leapfrogged 2009 WSOP Main Event Joe Cada ($8,626,099) and Gus Hansen ($9,102,528) after winning the tournament.
