Phil Ivey wins almost $500k in One Day

Phil Ivey is arguably the best poker player of all-time, and he did nothing to discredit that notion earlier this week after winning almost $500,000 in one day.

Ivey’s biggest victim on his Monday night session at Full Tilt Poker was German Limit Hold’em player “Kagome Kagome.” The two high stakes players met in a game of $3,000/$6,000 Limit Hold’em, and they ended up playing 311 hands. It turned out to be 311 hands that Kagome Kagome would rather forget as he lost $476k to Ivey during the session. This avenged some earlier losses that Ivey had to the German Limit player, including one day where he dropped $112k.

Ivey was previously struggling in 2011, but has managed to turn things around after raking in the $500k, and he’s now up over $300,000 on the year. More importantly, Ivey ranks as the all-time leader in online cash game winnings with $18.3 million (right now).

Kagome Kagome, on the other hand, is going in the opposite direction financially since he is now down over $800,000 in 2011. Some might even attribute his misfortunes to a forced name change by Full Tilt Poker. Full Tilt got complaints about his previous name “IHateJuice,” then they made him change it to Kagome Kagome. Since the name change happened in January of 2011, things have gone downhill for him since he’s lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
