Julien Kabitzke takes Everest Poker ONE Title

Germany's Julien Kabitzke outlasted a 221-player field to win the Everest Poker ONE Main Event this week.

The Everest ONE tournament, which was held at the Salle des Palmiers in Monaco, offered players a giant €1,071,850 prize pool. Not surprisingly, the prize pool attracted many of the world's top pros including Kevin "ImaLuckSac" MacPhee, Isabelle Mercier, and Team Everest Pros Leo Truche and Fabrice Soulier. But even with all of the big-time pros involved in this tournament, most of the 21 players who cashed in the event were largely unknown.

Going into the final day, the top of the leaderboard was filled with German players as Alexander Debus led all players with 1.6 million chips. And Debus did a great job of holding onto this chip lead throughout the final day until he faced Kabitzke in the heads-up part of the tournament. The two played against each other for an hour and a half before Kabitzke was able to work his way into the lead, and bust Debus out after his pocket queens held up.

Following the big win, Kabitzke told reporters, "Everest Poker organized a very nice tournament. It was comfortable to play, high quality dealers and obviously the good card run helped a lot. I really enjoyed it."

Prior to this game, Kabitzke had never experienced any big cashes. However, the qualifier from Everest Poker earned the victory of his life in this tournament.
