Barry Greenstein
Current Residence: California
Birth Place: Illinois, USA
Born in: 1954
Summary:
Barry Greenstein learned to play poker early, taught the basics of the game by his father who had competed at a high level in the army. During the early years of his adulthood, though, Barry did not have aspirations to becoming a professional poker player. He finished a degree in computer sciences at the University of Illinois and began studying for a PhD in mathematics but left before completing the grueling task. He worked at Symantec until he was 35, when he retired to play poker full time.
Since that time he has won two WSOP bracelets and two WPT titles. Greenstein is known for his generous nature; he gives away an autographed copy of his book Ace on the River to anyone who defeats him in a tournament and did the same in order to learn Vietnamese. Moreover, he is known to have given all of his winnings in at least one tournament to charity, earning him the nickname Robin Hood of Poker. Barry did this without telling anyone as he did not want to call attention to the donation.
Hobbies: Golf, bridge
Career Highlights: Fifth annual Jack Binion Invitational Champion, 2006 WPT Invitational Champion
WSOP Bracelets: 2
Playing Poker at: PokerStars
