Gus Hansen is well regarded both in and out of the poker world, having been declared by People magazine as the world's sexiest poker player and signed to a model contract by Frank Q. Poker wasn't always Hansen's mainstay, though; he started playing professionally in 1997.
He began playing poker when he came to the United States as part of a youth exchange program. Hansen was also a youth tennis champion, and had tried to make a career as a professional backgammon player before deciding that the field was too small for this to be viable. Along with James Garner and Doyle Brunson, Gus Hansen was one of the first players inducted into the WP Walk of Fame. This was due to an unprecedented third championship in WPT open tournaments.
Although he has had a lot of success in poker, Gus Hansen is open about the struggles he has had with the gambling world. He has lost millions on poker alone, and confesses to an addiction to sports betting which he has expressed a desire to bring to an end.
