Summary:
Jerry Yang just might be poker's biggest success story, in an era where there are hundreds of success stories to choose from. Born in Laos in 1967, Jerry and his family were forced to flee to refugee camps when the communists began taking over. During these horrific years, Yang lost a brother and a sister. His family made the move to the United States in 1979, where Jerry took full advantage of the opportunities. He earned a Masters Degree in health psychology and became a social worker and therapist. Along the way, he also took the time to have his own family, including six children.
Yang's poker career started just two short years ago, and he found himself at the 2007 WSOP Main Event through a $225 buy-in at a satellite tourney. Although 8th in chips at the final table, Yang clawed his way back to win a spot as the 8th all time biggest money poker player. He also pledged 10% of his winnings to be divided amongst several charities and his alma mater.
