Joe Hachem
Current Residence: Australia
Birth Place: Lebanon
Born in: 1966
Summary:
Joe Hachem was born in Lebanon, but his family relocated to Australia when he was six years old. Originally trained as a chiropractor, Hachem had to give up his practice in 2002 due to a rare blood disorder which affected his work. He decided to move to playing poker on a full time basis, a decision that was supported by his wife, although he also opened a small brokerage firm.
Jumpstarting his poker career meant playing in several Australian casinos as well as online, where he overcame some of the challenges that stood in the way of victory (Hachem refers to himself as "an emotional guy"). This allowed him to emerge victorious in several Australian tournaments before his big win at the WSOP in 2005. Although Hachem was an amateur player, instead of winning a seat at the event he paid the full $10,000 buy-in, which he now says was a good investment. The Main Event pot in 2005 was $7.5 million.
Hobbies: Spending time with family
Career Highlights: 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion, World Poker Tour title at the Five Diamonds Poker Classic, career winnings of over $10 million
WSOP Bracelets: 1
Playing Poker at: PokerStars
