Texas Holdem Player Types

You will find that there are several different categories that Texas Holdem players fall into, and you will need to know which category you fall in. Of course there are certain player types that are better than others, and you should try becoming one of the player types with higher win ratios. We will briefly take a look at the different Texas Holdem player styles right now, and discuss why some are better then others.
Fish
This is the most common player style you will see in the online poker rooms, and it’s by far the worst way to play poker. Generally these players like to call right through to the river in hopes of hitting their hand and taking down the pot. The only problem with this style is that 7 times out of 10 the hand won’t come and they will lose whatever chips they invested into the pot up to the river. You will notice your chip stack dwindle considerably if you play this way, and you will generally lose money. If you can spot these players in the poker rooms then you will have a great opportunity at taking their chips, so keep an eye out for the fish at the poker tables and take advantage of their poor playing style.
Loose Aggressive
A loose aggressive player isn’t the type of player you want to be, as they play similar to the fish. The one main difference between the fish and the loose aggressive player is that the loose aggressive player will raise most hands where the fish just calls. Now on a real tight table the loose aggressive player might be able to take down some decent pots, but for the most part these players are spotted quickly and taken down. If you notice a player raising hands consistently in a row then you can generally guess that not all of these hands are great hands. If you plan your attack you will be able to take the loose aggressive player out in one hand. Just wait for your hand and allow the player to bet out which they will do, and then raise them all-in and take them for their money.
Super Tight
The super tight player generally does well in the poker rooms, and also does well in small table tournaments. The rock player types will play only their best hands, and try capitalizing on them. One problem with this playing style in tournament play is that you will need to loosen up your style in order to make it to the money. A lot of players will catch on to your style if you only play the best hands, and they will generally fold against you. One good thing though is that you will be able too bluff some hands when you have nothing and players will show you more respect then they would any other playing style.
Weak Tight
You won’t see too many weak tight players in the poker rooms, but when you do you should be a bit worried. They are good players who like tight players will play only their best hands. The only problem these players face is that they are sometimes scared to go into large pots with marginal hands. A lot of times pots could be won by these players, but they fold before they can see the hands. If they would loosen up their style a bit then they would win a lot more then they do, but generally this player style wins money just not as much as they could.
Tight Aggressive
This is the best playing style to try and adapt into your arsenal, because they win the most money in poker. This playing style is feared by most other poker players and many times people don’t have the cure for beating this playing style. These players are tight and play their best cards typically, but they will also throw in some bluffs when the pots are large. They aren’t afraid to throw chips into the pot, and when they bluff or bet they back their moves up with an even bigger bet. This is why many players fear this style, because they will either need to go broke or risk going broke to win the pot, which is something most poker players don’t like doing.
