World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP)

PokerStars.com has just released their schedule for the upcoming 2008 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The tournament events will begin on Friday, September 5th and run until Sunday, September 21st. Various satellites will be running during July and August for your chance to win a seat at one of the 33 events running during this time.

This year’s version of the WCOOP has a guaranteed prize pool of $30,000,000, doubling last year’s prize pool and making it the biggest online poker tournament series in the world. There is a wide range of poker games covered throughout the 33 events including Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, Razz, Horse, 2-7 Draw and more. Many of the events are bringing in a guaranteed prize pool of over $2,000,000! Be sure not to miss out on the 2-day $10,000,000 No Limit Hold’em event on Sunday, September 21st for a buy in of $5,200.

You may simply buy in directly at any of the WCOOP events, or win a seat via any of the various satellites being run throughout July and August. To register, just open the PokerStars lobby, click ‘Events’ and then ‘WCOOP’. The cash qualifiers start from as low as $2.20 and the FPP satellites are starting from 100 frequent player points. The lowest buy-in at this years WCOOP is set at $215, with plenty of events running at this buy-in.

Get into the action right away with the opening No Limit Hold’em tournament held on Friday, September 5th. This event is a 6 player max tournament with a buy-in of $215. The event has a great 1 million dollar guaranteed prize pool. Also on the first day of the WCOOP is a Pot Limit 5-Card Draw event. The buy-in for this event is also $215 with a prize pool of $100,000 guaranteed.

For the high stake players this year’s schedule includes two high roller events, both of which are NL Hold’em. The first is a buy in of $10,300 with a guaranteed prize pool of $2,000,000, and the second is a buy in of $25,500 with a guaranteed prize pool of $1,600,000.

Although Hold’em has been the main focus of the WCOOP over the years, this years schedule consists of many Omaha events with some large prize pools guaranteed. The seven Omaha events include both Limit and Pot Limit Omaha, with Hi-Lo events as well. The biggest Omaha event for the WCOOP is a $1,050 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha tournament that brings in a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000. The tournament is to be held on Friday, September 19th.
